Here are two illustrations by a contemporary artist, Charles Avery (from Vitamin D2 New Perspectives in Drawing, Phaidon, London 2013).
I like the quirky fantasy / imaginative themes and the detail. The figures have strange wiry forms and both pictures are unsettling, the first more obviously with the hybrid creatures mixed with recognisable refuse from our world, but the second too – and all the bicycles, a futuristic city (somewhere in South America?) perhaps where that’s the main means of locomotion, though different levels of wealth or lack of it are still very obvious.
In terms of the drawing I like the way Avery has captured the movement of the figures / creatures in both pictures.
