This is my first set of attempts with mono print. I found using the varying thicknesses and textures of paper that different textures were created with the ink picked off on the paper – the thicker, rougher papers (print 3 and 5) creating the lightest prints while the thinnest paper (the laser jet printer paper) produced very dark areas on the page.
I used a range of objects: tissue paper, string, coins, but quickly found that some of these were too thick and created unpredictable shapes. That is what happened in the first two prints below. Then I started using thinner objects, cut out pieces of tissue paper and dental floss which created more clearly defined shapes which I had a bit more control over.
With this method of mono print, a thickly inked up plate didn’t seem to be a problem, this only became an issue in the next exercise when I used the transfer method to create a self portrait.
