Came back to drawing a corner of the kitchen again as wasn't satisfied with what I had done before - again I had to make several attempts to get the relationship between different objects right. Here are some preliminary sketches I did followed by the final piece. Preliminary sketch 1 (4B pencil) Preliminary sketch 2 … Continue reading Kitchen corner again
Category: Project 1.3 Six Corners
Below are all the blog entries for exercises related to Project 1.3 Six corners.
Kitchen corners
For the last couple of days I have been doing some pencil sketches of kitchen corners - none that great - most have quite a lot going on in them - lots of separate elements which I found difficult to relate to one another. I used a cardboard frame to help narrow the focus. Here … Continue reading Kitchen corners
Two baskets, pen and ink
So, today I drew the two baskets in the corner of our living room, filled with foam rollers for doing yoga and exercises. I did an initial pen sketch to get the the forms and proportions roughly right and then redrew more carefully and then applied the Indian ink with a brush for shading. The … Continue reading Two baskets, pen and ink
Contour drawing and pen and ink again
So, I tried doing some (semi-) contour drawing of the same corner several times - here is the final attempt: Contour drawing of windowsill corner I then copied this line drawing onto a thick piece of water colour paper and then looking at the original scene in reality added shading applying Indian ink with a … Continue reading Contour drawing and pen and ink again
Charcoal drawing
I drew my first charcoal drawing of still life below. It's the same corner of the room I did in the previous pencil drawing. I did this one in charcoal over two days. It is on an A1 sheet of white paper and I used charcoal sticks and a putty rubber. I did briefly apply … Continue reading Charcoal drawing
Another corner
This is another drawing of a room corner I completed today. It's another more careful drawing where I tried to get the level of tone right across the drawing. I realised for something like this that it was best to complete the drawing in one sitting otherwise the light inevitably changes (not to mention thoughtlessly … Continue reading Another corner
Drawing large scale
Thinking about oil pastels again and colour I was struck by the contrast of the bright orange of a shaving foam tube against the bright blue cap of a plastic bottle in the corner of our bathroom. I thought these glossy man-made objects might come across quite well in the bright colours of oil pastels. … Continue reading Drawing large scale
Pen and ink
I tried using drawing pens and Indian ink applied with a brush this morning. I always liked the look of a water colour type effect combined with ink line drawing and wanted to have a go myself. Well this is a first attempt - a bit of a mess, but what did I learn from … Continue reading Pen and ink
More corners
Here are a couple more sketches focusing on corners which I completed over the last few days. Again, I focused a lot on building up varying levels of tone. Maybe I'll try more line drawing or even contour drawing in the next few sketches.
Colour
I tried using pastels for a couple of sketches. The first was less successful - that was in oil pastels and I did that about two weeks ago. Here it is: I haven't used pastels that much. Also, the oil pastels I used were quite cheap and it was difficult to mix the colours. The … Continue reading Colour
